Concrete & Curbing
Concrete & Curbing Types
Concrete Walkways & Pads
Concrete is the preferred choice for walkways and dumpster pads because it’s more durable than other materials.
Concrete Ramps & Loading Docks
We frequently install concrete features to ramps and loading docks to make them safer and more accessible.
Curbing: Asphalt, Granite, and Concrete
Curbing is an essential infrastructure component because it channels rainwater into nearby drainage systems, keeping roads clear for motorists and cyclists and sidewalks clear for pedestrians.
Structures & Other Concrete Needs
Bollards, car stops, decks, and more help enhance the safety and organization of various paved surfaces.
We install bollards, car stops, decks, and other supplemental concrete structures to make paved surfaces safer and more organized.
The Process
Site Preparation
We get the site ready and lay the formwork to designate the intended shape and size.
Mixing & Pouring
We combine the concrete materials, pour them onto the formwork, and even out the surface.
Curing
We allow time for the concrete to set and apply any necessary touch-ups.
The Paving Process at a Glance
At Encore Pavement, we specialize in large-scale commercial concrete paving. Combining our decades of in-house project planning/management expertise with state-of-the-art equipment and top-notch concrete finishers, we can design and build nearly any exterior concrete paving project that you have in mind. Already have a set of plans for your project. No problem, our team will execute your engineered plan with extreme attention to detail and quality.
Design
One of our experienced team members will meet with you to learn about your particular application and expected traffic loads, as well as existing conditions on your property. We will assess the current stormwater drainage plan and determine if any improvements are needed so we can incorporate this into our proposal. Base stabilization if needed, proper grading, recommended concrete thickness, steel or fiber reinforcement, type of surface finish, and much more will be included with our plan so we can build a project that works for your particular business application long-term.
Concrete Mixing
Our experienced team will order a custom concrete mixture based on desired PSI strength, necessary cure times, water content for workability based on the application, any additives needed to account for expected weather conditions, and much more. There are a hundred ways to modify your concrete mix, and you’ll want an experienced crew to make those detailed determinations in the field so that you can get the highest quality and longest lasting project possible
Delivery and Placement
Your customized concrete order is mixed at the plant and transported to the jobsite using trucks equipped with rotating drums to maintain the mixture’s consistency. The concrete is then placed inside of our forms on the prepared and compacted subgrade. Depending on your particular application, we will recommend either steel wire, rebar, fiber reinforcement, or a combination. On large projects, we will place your concrete using a laser screed for increased accuracy, efficiency, and daily production. This allows us to open your project to traffic as soon as possible.
Finishing
After our crews finish screeding and leveling the concrete materials, they will complete a multi-step process to meticulously finish the surface using vibratory compactors, floats, edgers, trowels, hand tools, and brooms. Timing is everything to ensure a consistent, professional finish on your new concrete surface, and Mother Nature requires that we adjust that timing a little differently every single day. It takes many years of experience to understand the various methods, techniques, and timing modifications that must be made in the field in real time based on the often unpredictable Midwest elements
Curing
Curing is a crucial step that involves maintaining adequate temperature and moisture conditions for the concrete to develop it’s optimum strength and weight-bearing capacity. The initial curing timeframe for a typical installation, depending on the mix design and other factors, is 2 – 7 days. Our crews utilize several effective methods to maintain optimum conditions throughout the curing process so that the concrete can perform as intended over time. The outdoor elements and expected temperatures will dictate which curing methods we will use to ensure a quality project.
Jointing
Concrete pavements are designed with control joints to allow for expansion and contraction due to temperature changes, as well as shrinking during the initial curing process. These joints will either be formed by hand during the curing process, or saw-cut shortly after installation. Proper concrete joint spacing, angles, and saw cut depth are critical to maintaining the integrity of your new pavement over time and to help prevent random cracks from appearing throughout your pavement. Our team will design a custom, effective joint pattern based on the installation specifications and your particular property layout.
